Student Blog: Britt & Lynz - Whatever It Takes part 2

This past week I was reminded that I have to live for God all the time, 24/7, not when its just convenient for me, like when at church. That I must live for God now, stand up for him now, live the Christian life, the life God wants for me like God is coming to bring us/me home tomorrow. That’s what I am going to do, what I should have been doing all along… but it is never too late to start. I just wanted to say that I’ve changed since [we started this new series in Revo].

I used to be the girl that was afraid to show that I was a Christian, even in church. I was afraid to ask people ‘hey do you know God,’ ‘do you go to church,’ etc. I was afraid to worship how I wanted, to lift my hands to God, and yes [, even] afraid to sing (I was not blessed with a singing voice). Now I do not care what people think, I sing as loud as I want, and lift my hands to God. Hopefully you too will not be embarrassed, and will be able to spread God’s word, and be able to worship in Church.

Student Blog: Britt & Lynz - Whatever It Takes

After Revo [the April 1st service], I felt that it was the most moving service that I'd been in ever. I made the choice to do whatever it takes to get to God. Pastor John said that "most people don't do whatever it takes because they are afraid to fail, or be embarrassed." I knew I fell into the "most people" category, I felt afraid to let people see that I was a Christian, and that I did things for God. If God's called you to do something and it doesn't work out, oh well keep on moving, there is a reason He called you to do it. After hearing Pastor John say that people are going to doubt us, the first thing that popped into my head was Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." I can do anything with God by my side, and I will do anything and everything that God calls me to do. I'm going to do whatever it takes to get to God, whatever he has planned for me I'm going to do. I will not let you doubt me,doubt myself, or get embarrassed.

- Britt

After deciding to make the choice to do whatever it takes to get to God, I was so relieved. I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders, because I didn't have to feel embarrassed. If whatever God wanted me to do didn't work out, you just keep moving on, because you still went through with it and did whatever it took.

Spring Breakin’ It Up: Revo’s Top 5 Amusement Park Rides

Living in Central Florida has it's advantages; like amusement parks! So in honor of the good weather, spring (and soon summer) breaks, and high priced theme parks here is Revo's Top 5 Amusement Park Rides! When your done checking out the list leave us a comment and let us know what your favorites are!

5. Dueling Dragons – Islands of Adventure – Any ride that does flips and loops, goes 55 mph, with no floor or anything beneath you, while you are literally 5 feet away from another roller coaster doing the exact same thing will make my list.

4. Tower of Terror – MGM Studios – I’ll admit, this ride gave me nightmares when I was a kid, but now the thrill of dropping several stories through the pitch black while traveling through the “Twilight Zone” is a must do whenever I visit MGM studios. My tip: take a penny with you and when you are falling let the penny go about 6 inches away from your face, since the ride gives you about 2-3 seconds of zero gravity the penny will just float there in front of you.

3. Splash Mountain – Magic Kingdom – Pure, classic, gold. This ride is a 10 minute jerky-robot old-timey-music filled adventure of a rabbit that gets in trouble with a bear and fox, then you climb and climb up a steep hill…more jerky-robot storytelling…another small climb…then you look over the whole park and fall straight down into a pool of water that is going to absolutely soak you. All the while people are on a bridge laughing at you as you pass underneath. Doesn’t get any better than that!

2. The Incredible Hulk – Islands of Adventure – Ok, no tricks, no story telling, no robots or corny music, just an incredibly fast, blood rushing, diving, looping, twisting, g-forcing, vomit inducing, roller coaster that will leave you dizzy. Perfect.

1. Haunted Mansion – Magic Kingdom – This is my ultimate favorite amusement park ride I’ve ever been on. There are no flips, dives, or spins; heck…the car thing barely moves at all but the fun happens as soon as you get in line (which turns out to be a pun-filled cemetery) and lasts until when the creepy person on the treadmill thing tells you the ride is over. Just to try and sum up how awesome this ride is here are just a few of the things you experience; a room that stretches (with a surprise ending), a ball room full of dancing ghosts, a graveyard where zombies are having a party, a ladies head in a crystal ball, and the icing on the cake…a ghost actually sits next to you on the ride! And don’t be fooled by the zombies and ghosts, this ride is as harmless as…well…a ghost.
.
And to get you a little more pumped up here is Dueling Dragons from the front seat:

So there you have it, our Top 5 Amusement Park Rides! Didn't see your favorite? Want to add a ride? Make your own list? Just hit the "comments" button on the top or bottom of the post and tell us what you think!

What To Read: Leap Over A Wall by Eugene H. Peterson

Leap Over A Wall by Eugene Peterson King David“Earthly Spirituality for Everyday Christians”

King David has been coming up a lot in Revo lately and I thought it would be a perfect time to plug a book that made me fall in love with one of the most chronicled characters in the whole Bible. In Leap Over A Wall
Eugene Peterson (author of The Message Bible) examines David’s life from begging to end taking struggles and stories from it and applying to our life today and how David’s examples can aid us in our life, relationship, and faith in God.

Previous to this book a lot of 1st and 2nd Samuel was just two books of the Old Testament referenced once-in-awhile during sermons or devotions. I knew the story of David and Goliath, of Bathsheba, and the conflict between David and King Saul but they were just Sunday school stories that I would never think to reflect on when going through a rough time or spiritual growth. After this book I jump straight to David’s life when I’m looking for guidance or encouragement. Peterson does such an incredible job of breaking down David’s life through scripture and applying it to today. Take advantage of this book and learn more about David than just the coloring pages they hand out in Sunday school.

Man! Seriouslly, this is such a good book!

What To Read: Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller

Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller

“Nonreligious thoughts on Christian Spirituality”

Donald Miller’s second book is a semi-autobiographical here-and-there collection of stories from the author’s walk through spirituality. It’s not about being a Christian really, more about this one guy’s life and relationship with his creator. When I first got to college my RA demanded I read it and I have to admit, it blew me away. The author writes with a soft conversational tone, is very honest with the reader (telling it like it is), and makes no apologies for demonstrating what might seem like some controversial ideas and experiences. It’s refreshing sometimes to read someone else’s journey and know that there are other people out there who can sometimes be just as confused about all this “God stuff” as yourself. My only warning, it’s a book for older readers; not necessarily for any language or subject matter but the tone in which the author writes, like a college student, or twentysomething. Just about anyone can relate to a guy like Donald Miller and going with him through his journey of spirituality isn't something you want to miss.

For more on Donald Miller visit a Q and A article Relevant Magazine did with him or for more reviews of the book visit Amazon.com.

Spring Breakin’ It Up: Revo’s Top 5 Spring Break Movies

UP movie Pixar DisneyFlorida’s weather can be beautiful during spring and hopefully you’ve hit up the beach and some of our “other” places we discussed but sometimes the most fun can be had with some popcorn, friends, and a good flick. So get out of the sun for a little bit, enjoy the always ice cold AC in the theatres, and check out Revo’s top 5 spring flicks:

1. Up – Pixar has made some of the most widely-enjoyable and ‘feel good’ movies in the last couple of years and even though recent movies like Cars and WALLE didn’t blow me away they made for a great time at the movies and from the short trailers that we’ve seen this looks to be right on par. We’ve still got awhile before it’s release (May 29) but mark it on your calendar, get a big group, and go enjoy what I think looks like this spring’s best movie.

2. Monsters vs. Aliens (PG) – The kid in all of us will appreciate the easy humor, cool graphics, and simple plot points and out of all the movies out there right now this one looks the most fun. So don’t be too proud, get the works at the concession stand, and soak up every minute.

3. Paul Blart: Mall Cop (PG) – This is another one that should just be taken for what it is, Kevin James (King of Queens) running around making you laugh as a Mall Cop. The trailer looks good, Kevin James cracks us up, and let’s be honest…Mall Cops rank pretty low on the totem poll, which makes it funny. Right? (We’ll see I guess).

4. Taken (PG-13) – Sometimes a good thriller is just what you need and from what all the reviews say Taken delivers in spades. Liam Neeson’s daughter is kidnapped, his old career as a “preventer” gives him the skills to get her back, it promises lots of action, and from what I hear…a surprise ending. Fandango.com gives a “Go” rating and I’m saying the same.

5. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (PG-13): As a long time comic collector this movie gives me an automatic eye-rolling reaction but Wolverine is a classic character that we know is going to demand some kick-butt action and lots of moments leaving you saying “sweeeeeet.” The promises of some new mutants like Gambit, Deadpool (!!), Emma Frost, and yes even The Blob (they just couldn’t resist) are sure to be at least a little enjoyable right? What the hey – go see this movie and soak up the nostalgia no matter how corny it might get.

Well there yah have it, Revos top 5. Enjoy! Don't forget to bookmark us and always check back for more blog posts.
